A firewall is a device located at an entry point to your company's internet connection. Its purpose is to protect the resources of a private network from hackers and other internet users. Basically, a firewall, working closely with a router, filters all network packets to determine whether to forward them toward their destination. For mobile users, firewalls allow remote access in to the private network by the use of secure logon procedures or VPN configuration.
Intrusion detection is a security service that monitors and analyses system events to find and provide real-time or near real-time attempt warnings to access system resources in an unauthorised manner. This is the detection of break-ins or break-in attempts, by reviewing logs or other information available on a network.
